The SLAM challenge

Pressure on city infrastructure, traffic jams and green movements has led to a meteoric rise in micromobility. While this has made it easier for people to commute, it has also introduced new challenges for cities and the operators of such services alike: sidewalks are crowded with scooters, riders drive recklessly and e-scooters get lost in garages without GPS. Hence, the industry is in need of solutions to ensure safe usage within local regulations. Tracking and monitoring the position -thereby driving behaviour & location- is key, though GPS does not provide the required fidelity, especially in urban environments.

How ArtiSLAM can be applied

ArtiSLAM's visual inertial odometry (VIO) can be combined with map-based relocalization and additionally fused with GNSS to provide cm-level positioning accuracy in global coordinates, keeping eyes on each scooter's location. This allows our clients to ensure that they're traceable even in GNSS-denied environments and that they are only driven and parked where allowed.
