The SLAM challenge

As labour shortages and supply bottlenecks are becoming more common, people look to robots to help with more repetitive and increasingly complex tasks. However, it is no easy feat to design a robot that can position itself without interruptions in dynamic environments while remaining low cost. If the ODD extends to outdoor areas, the robot also needs to be able to reliably understand its position in the map despite drastic changes in light, weather and the environment itself. Available SLAM alternatives force companies to stay indoors where 2D LiDAR and feature-based visual SLAM works well at small scale, to spend years in R&D to develop custom solutions or to choose high-cost positioning systems.

How ArtiSLAM can be applied

ArtiSLAM provides robust and cm-level positioning accuracy using affordable cameras as a base sensor.

Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO), Map-based relocalization, additional GNSS, wheel odometry or even additional LiDAR fusion can be combined to provide the target accuracy, reliability and coverage required for our customers' use case and ODD.

How Clients Benefit

  • No limit on operations: Robots are no longer bound to either only operate indoors/outdoors or with a limit on the map size, but can move seamlessly between the different spaces.
  • Flexible set-up: Clients have the option of implementing ArtiSLAM Embedded or Cloud depending on specific use case requirements.
  • Quick Go-To-Market: Save R&D expenses and accelerate your roadmap by setting up in days instead of years.
  • Cost down and lower BOM: Augment or replace existing higher-cost systems with off-the-shelf cameras to drive down cost while increasing reliability.
